Jones House
Kamloops, BC
1996-1997
This is the project that started it all. This house was designed for D’Arcy’s parents while he was still a university student. Fitted onto a site that was considered unbuildable, this chunky and sculptural two-level house looks out onto the wildness of Pederson Creek in the hills above Kamloops. The large windows were aimed at ancient Ponderosa pines, native bunchgrasses and the occasional black bear. The project was only possible because of the patience of the late Ken Omelchuk, who was a craftsman and a gentle soul.
