This art studio is tucked into the slope below a mountainside house on legs designed by Hassel/Griblin Architects in 1974. The hard-wearing studio is part workspace, carport, and roof deck. The new building also provides a more functional stair connecting the driveway to the existing house perched more than 40 feet above. The studio’s interior looks out over mature treetops. A row of tall windows mimics the rhythm of the existing house’s skylights and windows. This glass wall’s L-shape softens glare and shadows at the interior.
